Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would put her according to American standards, in the class of child prodigies. For a child with Irish heritage, and surrounded as her by talented parents and family members did this naturally. Maureen entered into this nurturing home on August 17, 20th in Ranelagh. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also held shares of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen enjoyed playing athletic games as a child and was a pro in athletics. Her natural interest and her talent to perform was impressive. This was apparent that she was the winner of each Feis for theatre and drama which Ireland could offer. At age 14, she had been admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her goal was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
